August continues the summer low season pattern: wet on the Andaman coast, largely dry on the Gulf coast. European visitors swell numbers on Koh Samui and Koh Phangan despite it not being peak season. Northern Thailand is at its most verdant and beautiful, with fewer tourists than during the cool season. Prices across the country remain at low-season levels except on the Gulf islands. Queen Mother's Birthday is celebrated on 12 August.
