Data Sources & Attributions

Geographic and reference data on this site is drawn from open datasets. This page records which, under what licence, and how we treat claims we could not verify.

OpenStreetMap

Place names, coordinates, opening hours and some contact details are derived from OpenStreetMap.

© OpenStreetMap contributors. This data is made available under the Open Database Licence (ODbL). We publish individual facts within editorial guides; we do not redistribute the database or any substantial extract of it.

Wikidata

Province population, area, district counts, administrative codes, UNESCO World Heritage status, national park records and airport identifiers come from Wikidata, released under CC0 1.0 (public domain). Attribution is not required; we credit it because knowing where a number came from is part of being able to check it.

Population figures are reproduced with the census or estimate year they refer to, rather than presented as a current headcount.

Wikipedia

We use Wikipedia only to locate and cross-check individual facts, and we link out to it. We do not import Wikipedia prose. Its text is licensed CC BY-SA 4.0, whose share-alike term would apply to any work incorporating it — so our build rejects any long passage attributed to a Wikipedia source.

Official Thai government sources

Visa fees, entry rules, immigration procedures and statutory citations are checked against the issuing authority — the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Thai e-Visa service, the Immigration Bureau, the Board of Investment, and published Acts. Where a source sits behind an access challenge we cannot pass, we cite a dated archival snapshot instead and mark the claim as reported rather than verified.

How we handle facts

  • High-risk claims — fees, legal rules, phone numbers, tuition, opening hours — carry a source and the date they were last checked.
  • Review windows: visa and legal claims 180 days, prices 270 days, contact details 365 days. Our build fails when a claim passes its review date without being re-checked.
  • A claim we cannot verify is omitted, or shown with a visible note — never stated as fact. A wrong hospital phone number is worse than no phone number.
  • Business listings are never published on the strength of a single scraped source.

Corrections

If something here is wrong, please tell us — corrections are logged on our corrections page. Our editorial standards and fact-checking policy describe the process in full.
