About Pratumnak
Pratumnak Hill rises between central Pattaya and Jomtien, and the neighbourhood that occupies it is one of the more pleasant surprises in the Thai resort landscape. Referred to locally as the Royal Hill (the King's former summer palace sits on the headland), Pratumnak combines proximity to Pattaya's entertainment with a residential calm that neither Jomtien nor central Pattaya can match. The hillside roads wind between low-rise condo complexes, private villas, and a surprising number of genuinely good restaurants — Thai, French, and Italian in particular — that cater to the area's upmarket long-stay residents.
The small beach at the base of the hill (Pratumnak Beach, sometimes called Cosy Beach) is the most pleasant in the Pattaya area — sheltered, clean, and away from jet ski vendors. It is not a destination beach by Thai standards, but for a morning swim or an afternoon in a beach chair it is perfectly agreeable. The viewpoint at the top of the hill looking back over Pattaya Bay is worth the walk for the skyline panorama.
The clientele here runs toward affluent Europeans and Thais who want Pattaya's conveniences without Pattaya's chaos. Long-stay apartment costs are higher than Jomtien but the quality of build and neighbourhood environment justifies the premium for many. The main drag connecting Pratumnak to both Pattaya Beach Road and Jomtien makes the baht bus service functional, though the hilly terrain means more reliance on taxis or motorbike taxis than in flatter parts of the resort.
