Getting Started
Your complete Thailand trip planning guide — from choosing destinations to landing at the airport. Follow these six steps and you will be prepared for anything.
Choose Your Destinations
Thailand is large — picking the right regions for your trip type and time available is the most important decision. Beach lovers, city explorers, trekkers, and culture seekers all have different ideal routes.
Sort Your Visa
Many nationalities get 30–60 days visa-free. If you plan to stay longer, work remotely, or retire, there are specific visas to consider. Check the requirements well before you fly.
Plan Your Itinerary
Thailand works well on 2-week and 3-week trips. The islands and north require different planning — factor in travel days between destinations, which are often underestimated.
Book Transport
Flights to Bangkok (Suvarnabhumi or Don Mueang) or Phuket for the south. Within Thailand, domestic flights are cheap, trains are scenic and reliable, buses cover everywhere.
Prepare Your Packing
Thailand's climate varies by region and season. Pack light — laundry is cheap everywhere. Key items: sun protection, insect repellent, a light layer for over-air-conditioned buses and malls.
Prepare Arrival Documents
Immigration in Thailand is straightforward but you need certain documents ready. Have your return/onward ticket, accommodation details for your first night, and proof of funds available.
