About Klong Dao Beach

Klong Dao is the northernmost and most developed beach on Koh Lanta — a 3 km bay that sits just south of the ferry pier at Ban Saladan and has the widest range of resort accommodation on the island. It is gentler and less wild-feeling than the beaches further south, and this suits its primary audience: Thai families, couples on resort holidays, and older visitors who want comfort as much as adventure. The beach is slightly wider than Long Beach and the sand is pale gold; the sea is calm and shallow at the north end, making it particularly good for paddling and young children.

The resort strip behind Klong Dao is the most established on the island — longer-operating hotels, pool resorts, and beach restaurants that have been open for ten or fifteen years give it a reliability that newer, more fashion-forward beaches cannot match. The trade-off is that it is less characterful than Long Beach — some sections feel like a standard Thai resort experience rather than the Koh Lanta alternative-island vibe that draws travellers here in the first place.

The practical advantages of Klong Dao are real: it is closest to the ferry pier at Ban Saladan (5 minutes by motorbike), making arrival and departure logistics the easiest on the island. Ban Saladan itself has Koh Lanta's best concentration of services — supermarket, pharmacy, dive operators, motorbike rental, and restaurants serving every cuisine. Klong Dao guests benefit from this convenience while the beach road feels quieter than town.
