Thailand for Families
Child-friendly beaches, temples, and adventures the whole family will love.
Thailand is an outstanding family destination, widely regarded as one of Asia's most welcoming countries for children. Thai culture treats children as precious and adults are accustomed to seeing families of all configurations at temples, markets, and resorts. The country offers an extraordinary range of family-appropriate activities: world-class beaches with safe shallow water, interactive historical parks, wildlife sanctuaries, cooking classes for children, elephant sanctuaries (the ethical kind), theme parks, and a cuisine that most children enjoy — mild, fragrant, and varied.
Practically, Thailand is very well set up for families. Major resorts have extensive children's clubs, shallow pool areas, and babysitting services. Medical care in Bangkok and major tourist towns is excellent. Getting around is straightforward with private transfers easy to arrange and domestic flights affordable. The biggest challenge for families is the heat — the March to May hot season is genuinely extreme and small children can suffer in temperatures exceeding 40°C. The cool season from November to February is the ideal time to visit with children, offering comfortable temperatures, dry weather, and calm seas on both coasts.

Key Tips
- Visit November to February for the most comfortable temperatures and calm seas on both coasts — essential for young children.
- Arrange private transfers rather than public transport for airport arrivals with young children and luggage.
- Most Thai pharmacies stock children's medicines, sunscreen, and nappies — you do not need to overpack.
- Ethical elephant sanctuaries in Chiang Mai offer genuine sanctuary experiences where elephants roam freely; avoid riding facilities.
