Railay Beach in Krabi province offers one of the world's most dramatic settings for rock climbing: 200+ bolted sport routes on vertical and overhanging limestone karst, with the Andaman Sea glittering below and jungle-wrapped cliff faces above. The main climbing areas are spread across the peninsula: Railay West Beach has accessible beginner routes on lower walls; Diamond Cave has excellent multi-pitch climbing on the central massif; One Two Three Wall offers steeper routes; and Tonsai Bay — accessed via a 20-minute jungle scramble — hosts the most technical overhanging routes (6b–8c) favoured by experienced sport climbers. Guided half-day courses for beginners (฿1,500–2,000 including equipment) are available from King Climbers, Hot Rock Climbing, and several other operators on Railay. These typically cover belay techniques, basic movement skills, and a route on an accessible grade. Equipment rental for those who know what they are doing: ฿500–800/day for harness, shoes, and helmet. The most celebrated routes include Dragon Wall (5.12a), Cat Walk (6a), and the sustained slab routes of the South Wall area. The best season is November–April when the rock is dry and humidity manageable; the wet season (May–October) makes many routes unclimbable and the cliff access dangerous. Accommodation on Tonsai Beach places you steps from the wall — basic bungalows ฿300–600/night. Railay is accessible only by longtail boat from Krabi town or Ao Nang.
