The Krabi region — particularly Railay Beach and Tonsai Beach — is one of the world's most celebrated rock climbing destinations, combining spectacular Andaman Sea scenery with excellent limestone walls that provide climbing at every level. The main climbing areas are Railay West (beginner routes near the beach), Tonsai (steeper and more technical walls favoured by experienced climbers), Diamond Cave Wall (multi-pitch routes), and the Dream Wall on Tonsai (a steep overhang of 7a–8b routes). There are over 200 bolted routes in total, with grades ranging from 4 (beginner slab climbing) to 8c (world-class overhangs). Half-day beginner courses (including equipment and instruction) cost ฿1,500–2,000 and are offered by several guiding companies including King Climbers and Tex Rock Climbing. The best climbing season is November to April when the weather is dry and humidity lower. During the wet season (May–October), humidity makes holds slippery and many routes become unavailable. Accommodation on Tonsai Beach is cheaper than Railay and naturally popular with climbers — basic bungalows for ฿300–600 a night place you steps from the wall. The combination of morning climbing, afternoon sea-kayaking, and sunset at Railay Beach is one of Thailand's great active travel experiences.
