Feeding children in Thailand is rarely a serious challenge but requires some awareness of what works. Authentic Thai food is often heavily spiced, which younger children may struggle with — but Thai cuisine also contains many naturally mild and child-friendly dishes, and Western food is available everywhere tourists travel. Child-friendly authentic Thai dishes: Khao man gai (poached chicken on rice) — mild, popular with children, available everywhere and cheap (40–60 THB). Khao pad (fried rice) — specify "mild" or "not spicy" (mai pet); with egg (kai) is widely loved by children. Pad see ew (wide rice noodles with egg, soy sauce, and your choice of protein) — mild, savoury, usually a hit. Kai jeow (Thai omelette over rice) — essentially an elevated omelette on rice; universally loved. Kuai teow (noodle soup) — clear broth options are mild; avoid tom yum base which is spicy. Mango with sticky rice — practically the perfect children's dessert. Roti with banana and condensed milk — street snack children frequently love. What to look for when ordering for fussy children: tell the stall or restaurant "mai pet, khob khun kha/khrap" (not spicy, thank you) clearly before ordering. Ordering plain rice (khao suai) alongside any main dish is always possible. Fast food: KFC, McDonald's, and Burger King are widely available in all cities and tourist towns, typically in shopping malls. Pizza Hut and Pizza Company (Thai chain with good quality) are available in cities. Japanese fast food chains (MOS Burger, Yoshinoya) are popular in Bangkok malls. Convenience stores (7-Eleven, Family Mart) sell sandwiches, onigiri, instant noodles, and packaged snacks suitable for children. Supermarkets in resort areas stock familiar foreign brands. Milk and dairy: fresh cow's milk is available at supermarkets. UHT milk boxes are sold everywhere including 7-Eleven. Thai children's yoghurt brands are cheap and widely available.
