Erawan Falls is Thailand's most celebrated waterfall, a seven-tiered cascade tumbling through the dense jungle of Erawan National Park in Kanchanaburi province. Each tier forms a distinct turquoise pool fed by mineral-rich limestone, giving the water its extraordinary blue-green colour. The lower tiers are easily reached, while tier seven rewards those who tackle the full 2-kilometre forest trail with near-solitude and the most dramatic plunge pool.
Highlights
- Seven distinct tiers of turquoise mineral pools
- Swimming permitted in most pools — one of the best wild swims in Thailand
- Shoals of fish that nibble at visitors' feet in the lower pools
- Well-maintained jungle trail connecting all seven tiers
How to Get There
From Kanchanaburi town, take a minibus or shared songthaew from the bus station to Erawan National Park (roughly 1.5 hours). Private taxis and motorbike rentals are also available. The park is 65 km northwest of Kanchanaburi.
Visitor Tips
Arrive at opening time on weekdays — the lower pools fill up fast on weekends and Thai public holidays.
Wear water shoes or old trainers; the rocky path between tiers is slippery.
Food stalls at the park entrance have reasonable prices; bring snacks for the upper tiers.
