About Railay
Railay is a narrow limestone peninsula jutting south of Ao Nang, accessible only by longtail boat (15 minutes, ฿100) because sheer karst cliffs cut it off from the mainland by road. This isolation creates one of Krabi's most distinctive atmospheres: no cars, no motorbikes, just four beaches, a cluster of resorts and bungalows, and some of the world's best sport climbing on the karst walls. Railay East is the main pier and village strip; Railay West has the best sunset beach. Phranang Cave Beach — a short walk around the headland — is possibly the most beautiful beach in mainland Krabi, with a spirit shrine in a cave receiving offerings of phallic sculptures from local fisherfolk. Tonsai Beach to the north is the climbers' and budget travellers' enclave.
