About Ao Nang Beach Area

Ao Nang beach is Krabi province's main tourist centre: a 1.5 km strip of sand backed by restaurants, dive shops, tour agencies, and guesthouses, with limestone karst towers rising dramatically on the horizon. The beach itself is pleasant but not the finest in the area — its real value is as a hub. Longtail boats launch from the beach every few minutes to Railay (15 min), the four islands (2h circuit), and snorkelling spots. The main beachfront road is lively in the evenings with seafood restaurants and cocktail bars. Hat Nopparat Thara, accessible by a 10-minute walk along the headland, offers a longer, quieter beach with shallower development. Ao Nang is excellent for families and couples who want beach life with easy access to the Andaman's finest island experiences.

Highlights

  • 1Longtail boat access to Railay Beach, Phi Phi, and the Four Islands
  • 2Limestone karst scenery directly from the beachfront
  • 3Good range of restaurants, bars, and nightlife along the main strip
  • 4Proximity to Hat Nopparat Thara — longer quieter beach 10 min walk away

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Excellent island-hopping and boat trip access from the beach
  • Wide range of accommodation from budget guesthouses to resorts
  • Good infrastructure — ATMs, pharmacies, dive shops, and tour agents

Cons

  • Beach itself can be busy and the water murky at low tide
  • Noticeably more expensive than quieter areas of Krabi province
