Phuket Airport to Patong — Transport Guide

Phuket Airport sits at the island's northern tip, roughly 40km from Patong Beach. Here are all your transport options with up-to-date prices.

Quick Answer

What is the cheapest and fastest way from Phuket Airport to Patong?

The Smart Bus (route A3) is the cheapest at 170 THB but takes 75–90 minutes. A shared minibus (180–200 THB) is faster. For speed and convenience, Grab at 400–550 THB or a fixed-rate airport taxi at 600 THB is the better option, especially with luggage. Private pre-booked transfers range from 700–1,200 THB.

Smart Bus and Shared Minibus

The Smart Bus operates from outside the arrivals terminal. Route A3 heads south via Surin Beach, Bang Tao, and Kamala before arriving at Patong Beach. It runs roughly every 30–60 minutes and accepts cash. Good for budget travellers with light luggage who are not in a hurry. The A4 route continues further south to Kata and Karon.

Shared minibuses wait at the transport counter inside the terminal. You pay per person and share with other passengers heading in the same direction. They typically depart once the vehicle is full (or near-full). Faster than the bus and more affordable than a private taxi if travelling solo or as a couple.

Avoid Unlicensed Taxis

Phuket airport has a well-organised official taxi counter. Ignore drivers who approach you inside arrivals offering fixed prices — they are usually unlicensed and charge more than the official counter. The official taxi surcharge structure is fixed and displayed at the counter.

Tips for Your Journey

If arriving late at night (after 10pm), the Smart Bus does not run. A Grab or airport taxi is your only practical option. Download the Grab app before you land and ensure it is set to your destination — Grab is reliable throughout Phuket.

For hotels away from the main Patong Beach strip (e.g. on the hillside or near Tri Trang), confirm your exact drop-off location with the driver. Patong is compact once you arrive — most hotels are within a 10-minute walk of the beach.
