Thailand Night Markets

Thailand's night markets are among the world's great evening experiences. As the sun drops and the heat eases, streets and car parks transform into dense, vibrant bazaars where hundreds of vendors sell everything from grilled satay and mango sticky rice to vintage clothing, handmade jewellery, and locally designed art. Most major cities have at least one weekly walking street; the best are genuine community events rather than tourist constructs, and arriving with an empty stomach and a small bag of cash is the correct preparation.

Chiang Mai

Full destination guide

Sunday Walking Street (Wualai Road)

Sunday evenings, ~4pm–10pm

The most atmospheric evening market in northern Thailand — a kilometre of handcrafted goods, silverware, Northern Thai food, and street performers.

Saturday evenings, ~4pm–10pm

The slightly quieter Saturday version, winding through the old city towards Wualai. Good food and crafts with a more local feel.
