One timing note worth knowing: Phuket's luxury rates spike harder over Christmas and New Year than almost anywhere else in Thailand, so couples marrying in the Northern Hemisphere winter and planning to honeymoon straight after should expect a real premium for exactly the dates they are most likely to want.

Koh Samui's cluster of Four Seasons, Six Senses and similarly ranked properties is one of the Gulf coast's two or three strongest luxury concentrations, and the private-villa market on the north and west coasts is mature enough that a couple can genuinely disappear for a week without seeing another guest.
