Thailand has thousands of kilometres of coastline and over 1,400 islands — but most visitors concentrate on the same dozen famous beaches. Here are genuinely hidden or undervisited shores that offer extraordinary beauty without the crowds. Ao Nui, Koh Tao: a tiny, calm cove accessible only on foot (20-minute walk from the road or by private longtail). Crystal-clear water, excellent snorkelling over coral, and rarely more than 20 people. No facilities — bring everything you need. One of Thailand's most perfect small beaches. Hat Sai Ri, Koh Chang (not the same as the more famous Koh Chang east coast): the village beach on Koh Chang's west coast beyond the main tourist area. Local fishing boats, coconut palms, and a fraction of the Koh Chang resort crowds. Koh Kradan (Trang province): reachable only by ferry from Trang or Hat Yao pier; one of Thailand's most beautiful islands. Long sweep of white sand with no cars (the island is too small) and a handful of small resorts. Coral reef directly in front of the beach. Best visited October–May. Ao Phrao (Koh Kood): the west coast of Koh Kood (Koh Ku'd) in the Gulf of Thailand is almost entirely undeveloped. Ao Phrao on the southwest coast has absolute serenity, a small eco-resort, and snorkelling in gin-clear water. Koh Kood has no airport and is 3+ hours by boat from the mainland — a natural filter against crowds. Haad Chao Phao, Koh Phangan: on the northwest coast of Koh Phangan, away from the Full Moon Party area. Calm water, accessible by motorbike from Thong Sala, with a handful of friendly beachside restaurants. Perfect for swimming. Ao Nang Beach (the original), Krabi: immediately south of Ao Nang town, before the area's development exploded. Walk 15 minutes south along the coast at low tide to reach quiet rock-sheltered bays with dramatically fewer visitors. Koh Libong, Trang: Thailand's largest Andaman island south of Krabi. Famous for dugong (rare sea cow) sightings; almost entirely untouched by mainstream tourism. A ferry from Trang and a motorbike rental opens up extraordinary beaches with zero tourist facilities — genuine wild Thailand.
