About Samut Sakhon Province
Samut Sakhon, locally known as Mahachai, is a busy coastal province just southwest of Bangkok at the mouth of the Tha Chin River. It's one of Thailand's largest seafood processing and fishing hubs, with sprawling salt pans along Highway 35 and a working port that supplies much of the capital's fish markets. Most visitors come for a half-day food trip — fresh seafood at Mahachai market, the atmospheric Wat Chong Lom area, and a ride on the short Mahachai railway line from Bangkok.
