About Kalasin Province
Kalasin sits at the centre of Isaan and has reinvented itself as Thailand's 'dinosaur province' on the strength of major fossil discoveries at Phu Kum Khao. The Sirindhorn Museum and adjacent excavation site form one of the most important palaeontology centres in Southeast Asia. Beyond the dinosaurs, Kalasin offers the vast Lam Pao Reservoir, the rugged Phu Faek and Phu Phan ranges, and the distinct culture of the Phu Tai people, whose traditional weaving and dance survive in villages such as Ban Phon.
