About Erawan Area
The Erawan area, centred on Erawan National Park about 65 km north of Kanchanaburi Town, is one of Thailand's most beautiful natural destinations. The park's centrepiece is the Erawan Waterfall — a seven-tiered limestone cascade where each level forms a vivid turquoise pool fed by mineral-rich water. Swimming is permitted at most levels, and the fish (doctor fish and others) that gather in the shallower pools will nibble your feet if you stand still. The hike to reach the upper tiers involves modest scrambling on rope-assisted paths through dense jungle. Beyond the waterfall, the park contains caves, other forest trails, and the enormous Khao Laem Reservoir. The area is most accessible as a day trip from Kanchanaburi Town by minibus or organised tour.
