Best Hotels in Koh Tao

Koh Tao is the world's second most popular scuba diving certification destination. Small (just 21 sq km), hilly, and with beautiful coral reefs, it attracts divers, snorkellers, and those seeking a quiet Gulf island escape. Mae Haad is the main pier; Sairee Beach is the main tourist strip. The hills in between have jungle bungalows and eco-retreats.

Booking Tips for Koh Tao

  • 1

Book dive packages (accommodation + course) together — dive schools offer better rates when bundled, and you'll want easy access to the school.

  • 2

Night diving off Koh Tao is exceptional — many sea creatures are active after dark. Book an evening dive as part of your Open Water course.

  • 3

Koh Tao is small but hilly — walking between the main areas is tiring in the heat. Rent a scooter (฿150–200/day) for easy movement.
