Koh Samui in June

June is a shoulder season sweet spot for Koh Samui — the island sits on the Gulf of Thailand coast, which means its monsoon season runs later than the Andaman side (Phuket, Krabi). In June, Samui typically enjoys good weather: warm seas, manageable rainfall mostly in short afternoon bursts, and hotel prices significantly below the December–January peak. It's not guaranteed dry — occasional heavier spells do occur — but June is often genuinely excellent and underrated.

Weather in Koh Samui in June

Warm and mostly sunny with some afternoon showers. Average temperatures of 28–33°C. The Gulf of Thailand is generally calm in June — sea conditions are much better than on the Andaman side. Rainfall averages 100–130 mm across the month, typically in short afternoon or evening showers rather than prolonged rain. Occasional overcast days occur but multiday rain events are uncommon in June.

Crowds & Prices

Shoulder season. European and Australian holiday visitors (who dominate the December–March peak) are largely absent. The island is noticeably quieter. Resorts, restaurants, and beach clubs operate fully but without peak-season queues or price premiums. A good time to find availability at popular resorts.

Best Things to Do in June

  • 1Angthong Marine Park — the snorkelling and kayaking day trip from Koh Samui; seas are usually calm enough in June
  • 2Koh Tao dive trip — Koh Tao's dive sites are excellent year-round and June brings good visibility
  • 3Chaweng and Bophut beaches — Samui's main beaches are swimmable in June
  • 4Fisherman's Village Walking Street (Friday evening, Bophut) — a charming local market and street food event

Travel Tips for June

  • June is a good time to book resorts on the northern or eastern coast — these face the Gulf and have the calmest seas.

  • Check weather forecasts daily — while June is generally good, a rare heavy rain spell can close Angthong Park boat trips.

  • Prices for quality resorts are typically 30–40% lower than the Christmas peak — genuine value for mid-range travellers.
