Cookie Policy
This policy explains what cookies and similar technologies ThailandKnowledge uses, what data they collect, and how you can control them.
Minimal cookie use
We use as few cookies as possible. Analytics are handled by a cookieless provider, so no consent banner is required.
GDPR compliant
Our analytics do not track individuals, store personal data, or use cross-site identifiers. No data is sold to third parties.
You are in control
You can clear all cookies and localStorage data at any time through your browser settings without losing access to any content.
What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small text file that a website places on your device when you visit it. Cookies are widely used to make websites work, to remember your preferences, and to provide information to website owners about how their site is used.
Not all data storage on the web uses cookies. We also use browser localStorage for the saved-guides feature, which works similarly but is never transmitted with HTTP requests and cannot be read by third parties.
Cookies and storage we use
These cookies are necessary for the site to function. They enable core features such as page navigation and access to secure areas. The site cannot function properly without them.
- Session state
- Security tokens
- User preferences (theme, language)
We use privacy-friendly analytics (Plausible Analytics) to understand how visitors use the site — which pages are popular, where traffic comes from, and how long people stay. Plausible does not use cookies, does not track individuals, and is fully GDPR-compliant without consent banners.
- Page views
- Referrer source
- Approximate country
If you subscribe to our newsletter or dismiss the newsletter prompt, we store a small cookie so we do not show you the same prompt repeatedly. This data stays on your device and is not shared.
- Newsletter subscription status
- Prompt dismissed flag
When you save guides or destinations using the bookmark feature, this data is stored in your browser's localStorage — not a cookie. It stays on your device, is never transmitted to our servers, and is cleared when you clear your browser data.
- Saved destination slugs
- Saved guide slugs
Third-party cookies
ThailandKnowledge does not embed third-party advertising networks, social media trackers, or retargeting pixels. We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or similar tools that place third-party tracking cookies on your device.
If we embed external content (such as a YouTube video or a map), that provider may set their own cookies subject to their own privacy policies. We minimise embedded third-party content for this reason.
How to manage cookies
You can control cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to:
- View and delete individual cookies
- Block cookies from specific sites
- Block all third-party cookies
- Clear all cookies and site data on exit
To clear localStorage (saved guides), open your browser's developer tools (F12), go to Application → Local Storage, and delete the ThailandKnowledge entries. Alternatively, clearing all site data for this domain will remove everything.
GDPR and your rights
If you are in the European Economic Area or United Kingdom, you have rights under GDPR including the right to access, correct, or delete personal data we hold about you. Because our analytics are cookieless and do not identify individuals, we hold no personal analytics data tied to you. For newsletter subscriptions, you can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email.
