Visa Documents Checklist

Documents required for Thailand's most popular visa types — tourist, retirement, DTV, and education. Tick items off as you prepare your application.

Tourist Visa

Core Documents

  • Valid passport — minimum 6 months validity beyond travel dates
  • Completed visa application form (Thai Embassy or consulate form)
  • Recent passport-size photo (4 × 6 cm, white background)
  • Return or onward flight ticket
  • Hotel booking or accommodation confirmation
  • Bank statement — last 3 months showing sufficient funds (฿20,000+ per person)
  • Travel insurance covering the full trip duration

For Border / Visa-on-Arrival

Citizens of eligible countries can receive a 30-day stamp on arrival or apply for a 60-day tourist visa at a Thai embassy.

  • Proof of onward travel (printed ticket or screenshot)
  • Cash equivalent of at least ฿10,000 per person (₩20,000 per family)
  • Hotel booking confirmation for first night

Retirement Visa (Non-O-A)

Non-Immigrant O-A Visa (Retirement)

Apply at a Thai Embassy abroad or extend inside Thailand at an Immigration Bureau.

  • Passport — minimum 18 months validity
  • Completed visa application form
  • 2 passport-size photos
  • Proof of age (50+ years) — copy of birth certificate or passport bio page
  • Police clearance certificate from home country (issued within 3 months)
  • Medical certificate from licensed doctor confirming absence of prohibited diseases (issued within 3 months)
  • Bank statement or income proof — ฿800,000 seasoned in Thai bank account OR ฿65,000/month income proof
  • Letter from Thai bank confirming account balance (if using deposit method)
  • Health insurance policy covering Thailand with ฿40,000 outpatient / ฿400,000 inpatient minimum

Annual Extension (Inside Thailand)

  • TM.7 application form (available at immigration office)
  • Passport + photocopies of bio page, visa, arrival stamp, departure card (TM.6)
  • Updated bank letter and passbook showing current balance
  • Proof of address (signed lease, utility bill, or letter from landlord)
  • 4 passport-size photos
  • ฿1,900 extension fee

Destination Thailand Visa (DTV)

Destination Thailand Visa (DTV)

5-year multiple-entry visa for remote workers, freelancers, and long-stay travellers. Each entry allows 180 days.

  • Valid passport (minimum 6 months validity)
  • Completed online application via Thai e-Visa portal
  • Digital passport photo (600 × 800 px, JPEG, white background)
  • Proof of remote work or freelance income: employment contract + payslips OR freelance contracts + bank statements
  • Bank statement showing ฿500,000 (approx. $14,000 USD) or equivalent income
  • Proof of purpose — portfolio, website, or project documentation for digital nomads
  • Travel insurance or health insurance covering Thailand
  • Visa fee: ฿10,000 (paid online by credit/debit card)

Education Visa (Non-ED)

Non-Immigrant ED Visa

Required for language school enrolment, university studies, or approved courses.

  • Passport — minimum 12 months validity
  • 2 passport-size photos
  • Acceptance/enrolment letter from a Thai Ministry of Education-approved institution
  • Course schedule showing hours per week (minimum 20 hours/week for immigration purposes)
  • Transcript or proof of prior education (for university programmes)
  • Bank statement (฿20,000+ is standard; universities may specify higher amounts)
  • Completed visa application form
  • School letter of support (most language schools provide a standard template)

Maintaining ED Visa Inside Thailand

  • 90-day report every 90 days at Immigration or via TM.47 postal report
  • Attendance records — schools must report enrolment status to immigration
  • Annual extension: TM.7 form + school letter confirming continued enrolment
