Thailand Post (Thai Post, ไปรษณีย์ไทย) operates a nationwide network of post offices and is generally reliable for both domestic and international mail. Post offices are found in every town and district — look for the red-and-white logo. For sending parcels home, the key choice is EMS (Express Mail Service) versus SAL (Surface Air Lifted) versus regular surface mail. EMS is the most reliable international option, typically reaching Europe and North America in 5–7 business days, with online tracking from end to end. A 2 kg EMS parcel to Europe costs approximately ฿800–1,200; a 5 kg parcel costs ฿1,500–2,500. SAL (Surface Air Lifted) is cheaper but takes 2–4 weeks and has less reliable tracking — suitable for items you do not urgently need. Regular surface mail (boat/land) is very cheap (฿200–400 for a 2 kg parcel) but can take 1–3 months. The post office sells cardboard boxes in various sizes (฿10–60) and provides tape — bring your items ready to pack or assemble at the counter. DHL, FedEx, and UPS operate from Thailand for urgent or high-value shipments, costing 3–5x more than Thailand Post EMS but with guaranteed delivery windows. For art purchases, ceramics, or fragile items, professional packaging services near major markets and tourist districts will pack and ship items for you.
