Thailand's private hospital sector is genuinely world-class — particularly in Bangkok and Chiang Mai — and health tourism for comprehensive checkups is a well-established industry. Cost comparison: a comprehensive health screening package in Thailand (including blood work, ECG, chest X-ray, ultrasound, and specialist consultation) costs ฿3,000–12,000 depending on scope. The equivalent in the UK, Australia, or US costs $500–2,000+ and involves weeks of waiting. What a standard Thai health package includes: complete blood count, liver and kidney function, blood sugar, cholesterol, thyroid, urine analysis, chest X-ray, ECG, abdominal ultrasound, blood pressure, BMI. Premium packages add: colonoscopy, cancer markers (CEA, PSA, CA-125), bone density scan, cardiac stress test. The best hospitals for health tourism: Bumrungrad International (Bangkok) — the premier medical tourism hospital, accredited by JCI, with international patient services in 40 languages; packages from ฿8,000–25,000. Bangkok Hospital group — multiple branches across Thailand, excellent reputation; packages from ฿5,000–20,000. Samitivej Hospital (Bangkok) — highly regarded for women's health and paediatrics. Chiang Mai Ram and Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital for those based in the north. Practical: book 2–4 weeks ahead for popular packages; arrive fasted (8–10 hours) for accurate blood glucose results; results typically take 1–3 hours for standard panels. Travel insurance with medical tourism add-on can cover some costs.
