Thailand's ATM landscape has one universal and unavoidable fact: all Thai bank ATMs charge a ฿220 flat fee on foreign card transactions, in addition to whatever your home bank charges for international withdrawals. This fee applies regardless of which Thai bank ATM you use — Bangkok Bank, SCB, Kasikorn, Krungthai, and all others charge the same. The strategy to minimise costs: withdraw larger amounts less frequently (Thai ATMs allow up to ฿20,000–30,000 per transaction for most networks), use a Wise or Revolut card which refunds ATM fees up to monthly limits, and accept that the ฿220 fee is simply a cost of doing business. SuperRich exchange booths (Bangkok, airports, major tourist areas) offer some of the best exchange rates in Thailand and are worth using for large conversions — their rate is typically 1–3% better than ATM rates. ATM safety tips: use machines inside bank branches or shopping malls where possible (lower skimming risk); cover your PIN entry always; check the card slot for tampering before inserting; and use cards with instant transaction notifications so you see any suspicious charges immediately. Avoid ATMs on very quiet streets at night. Bangkok Bank ATMs generally have the highest withdrawal limits (฿30,000 per transaction) and are widely available. Carry some cash in smaller denominations (฿50, ฿100 notes) as tuk-tuks, market stalls, and small guesthouses rarely make change for large bills.
