Hat Sai Khao (White Sand Beach) is Koh Chang's longest and most visited beach at about 3 km, fronted by gentle Gulf of Thailand water and backed by a strip of guesthouses, restaurants, and bars that manages to remain relatively low-key despite being the island's commercial centre. The beach earned its name from genuinely pale, fine-grained sand — notably whiter than most beaches in the Gulf.
Koh Chang sits in the Trat province near the Cambodian border, well to the east of the main tourist circuits. This eastern Gulf location gives the island a different character to Samui or Hua Hin — more authentically Thai in its slower pace, with jungle-covered mountains rising sharply behind the beachfront development and a national park designation limiting sprawl.
The water at White Sand Beach is calm and shallow, ideal for families and casual swimmers. The coral reef off the southern rocks provides basic snorkelling. The beach is at its best from November through April; from May onwards, a combination of rain and occasional jellyfish makes it less appealing, though the lush jungle and waterfalls in the island's interior remain accessible year-round.

How to Get There
From Bangkok's Eastern Bus Terminal, take a bus to Trat (4–5 hours, 300–400 THB), then a songthaew to Laem Ngop pier (40 THB), then a ferry to Koh Chang (30 minutes, 80 THB). Minivans from Bangkok direct to Koh Chang pier are convenient (500–600 THB, 5 hours).
Visitor Tips
Rent a motorbike to explore the rest of the island — the coastal road is excellent and traffic is manageable.
Klong Plu Waterfall (30 minutes from White Sand Beach) is one of the island's best inland attractions — combine with a beach day.
The southern end of White Sand Beach is quieter and cleaner than the main tourist strip.
Koh Chang is 5–6 hours from Bangkok by bus plus ferry — plan at least 3 nights to justify the journey.
Day trips to the smaller surrounding islands (Koh Wai, Koh Kood) are easy to arrange from the beach.
