Getting Around Khao Yai — Transport Guide & Tips

Understanding transport in Khao Yai saves significant money and frustration. The options range from ultra-cheap public transit to comfortable private transfers, and the best choice depends on your budget, comfort level, and where you're going. This guide covers every practical transport option with current prices.

Local Transport Options

Private car or tour vehicle: 2,000–4,000 THB/day with driver. No public transport inside the park; rented car, tour vehicle, or private driver required Songthaew (Pak Chong to park gate): 30–50 THB. From Pak Chong town to the park entrance Bicycle (park interior): 50 THB/day. Good for the headquarters area and nearby trails; not practical for the full park

From Bangkok: private-transfer takes 3 hrs, costing 2,500–4,000 THB. Most practical option; no public transport to the park itself From Bangkok (Mo Chit) to Pak Chong: bus takes 3 hrs, costing 150–200 THB. Pak Chong is 15 km from the park entrance; take a songthaew from town (30 THB) From Bangkok (Hua Lamphong) to Pak Chong: train takes 3.5–4 hrs, costing 20–100 THB. Northeast line trains stop at Pak Chong; then 15 km to park by songthaew From Bangkok (Mo Chit / Victory Monument): minivan takes 2.5–3 hrs, costing 200 THB. Shared minivans to Pak Chong throughout the day

Ride-Hailing Apps

Grab is the dominant ride-hailing app in Thailand and works well in Khao Yai. Download it before arrival and link a credit card for cashless rides. Bolt is the main competitor with slightly lower prices. Both are significantly safer and more reliable than flagging random taxis or tuk-tuks, with transparent pricing and GPS tracking.

Motorbike and Car Rental

Motorbike rental in Khao Yai costs 150–350 THB/day and gives maximum flexibility. An International Driving Permit (IDP) is technically required. Wear a helmet — police checkpoints are common and fines are 500 THB. Car rental runs 800–1,500 THB/day. Insurance is essential and not always included in the base price.
